Fuller Public Library – Internet Use Policy

The Fuller Public Library is providing access to the Internet as part of its commitment to meet the cultural, informational and educational needs of the community.

Disclaimer:

Fuller Public Library patrons use the public computers and the Internet at their own risk. The Library does not assume responsibility for any information transmitted or received while using Library equipment. The Library, its employees, and its Trustees do not control the Internet and will not be responsible for damage to patron data while using personal devices connected to the Library’s WiFi, and they cannot guarantee secure connections. The Library cannot censor access to material or protect anyone from information that they consider offensive, controversial, or inappropriate. Due to the nature of the Internet, not all information found there is accurate, complete, or current.

Who May Use the Public Computers:

Access to the Internet is available to all patrons in good standing; however, this service may be restricted at any time for use not consistent with the guidelines. Everyone who wishes to use the Internet must read this policy and agree to abide by it. Parents of minor children must assume responsibility for their children’s use of the library’s Internet service by signing an Internet Use Agreement for anyone under 18 years of age. Those under the age of 12 must have an adult physically present while using the Internet.

Expectations of Users:

  1. Users should be aware that the inappropriate use of electronic information resources can be a violation of local, state, and federal laws and can lead to prosecution.
  2. Users will be held responsible for his/her actions using the Internet.
  3. Users are expected to abide by the policies below which include generally accepted rules of network etiquette.
  4. Unacceptable uses of the service will result in the suspension or revocation of Library privileges.
  5. Be aware that you and your children are responsible for the choices you make concerning how you use the Internet.
  6. Users assume all risks associated with use of the Internet and agree to hold harmless the Library and its employees for any personal information that is compromised.
  7. The use of the internet and e-mail is not guaranteed to be private.

Guidelines:

  • Users must sign up to use a Public Internet Computer at the Circulation Desk. Patrons should present their library card to staff. Staff are required to check the patron’s record to ensure the patron is in good standing. If the patron has overdues or fines they will not be allowed to use the Public Internet Computer until those issues are resolved.
  • When using the Public Internet Computers for the first time, patrons will be asked to read through FPL’s Internet Policy.
  • Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Computers are available for a 30 minute session, if no one is waiting users may stay on past the 30 minute time. If library staff ask you to leave because someone is waiting to use a workstation, you are expected to quickly finish your work and close any open applications/documents/browsers so that the next person can have their turn.
  • Library Computers are shut down 15 minutes prior to closing. If library staff ask you to leave, you are expected to quickly finish your work and close any open applications/documents/browsers.
  • Users may use the Internet for research and the acquisition of information to address their educational, vocational, cultural, and recreational needs.
  • Users may use the Internet for the receipt and transmission of e-mail as long as they use an outside e-mail service (Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) which will establish and maintain an account for them; the library is unable to manage e-mail accounts for organizations or individuals.
  • Users will respect the rights and privacy of others by not accessing private files.
  • Users shall not deliberately or willfully cause damage to computer equipment, programs, or settings, or make changes to the computers, including changing the desktop or installing icons.
  • Users will not use library’s computers or WiFi to illegally download, upload copyrighted material, or download apps of any kind.
  • There is a charge of 15 cents per page for black and white printing, patrons are responsible for all pages that are printed.
  • Users are responsible for their workstation. Users needing to leave their workstation temporarily should make sure to log out of any software or Internet programs and to take personal valuables with them. The library is not responsible for any personal items missing from workstations, or anything that happens to their work/email/open applications while they are away from their workstation.
  • Library staff are authorized to terminate an Internet use session for anyone who fails to comply with this policy. Users will be held financially responsible for damage to equipment caused by misuse. Malicious damage to equipment will result in suspension of library services and/or prosecution of criminal charges.
